Author Visit - Ellen Leventhal
Author Visit - Ellen Leventhal
The Kaplen Library is excited to announce a special Author Visit with children’s writer Ellen Leventhal, author of the picture book Debbie’s Song. During her visit, Ellen Leventhal will meet with students in Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, and 3rd Grade to talk about her books, the writing process, and the inspiration behind her stories.
Debbie’s Song tells the touching true story of a Jewish girl named Debbie who loves to sing, even though she is sometimes teased by others. With the encouragement of a caring teacher, Debbie finds the confidence to share her voice and to grow up to be a groundbreaking musician who created inclusive, community-focused songs. It is a book that shows the power of kindness, friendship, and believing in yourself.
Before the visit, students will learn some of Debbie Friedman’s songs during music class and discuss her books during library class. We hope to have a sing along celebrating both her music and story during the visit with Ellen Leventhal!
Families will have the opportunity to purchase books for their children. The following titles will be available for purchase:
- Debbie’s Song
- A Flood of Kindness
Both books are written by Ellen Leventhal and will be signed by the author for students.
The last date to order books in order to receive a signed copy will be Monday, March 30, 2026.
We are thrilled to provide our students with this opportunity to meet a real author and celebrate the joy of reading and writing.
